Between Climate Change and Peak Oil the squeeze is on. Not only do we have
to reduce our emissions to tackle climate change but we are entering an era when global oil supply will tighten leading to high prices and scarcity. Mr Dillon will outline the challenges ahead and explain the role of Transition Towns in preparing for this future.
Ireland's first CarSharing service, GoCar, is going live in Cork on the 19th of
September with eight fuel efficient, low emission diesel vehicles spread throughout the city centre for easy access by business & private customers alike. GoCar is a 'pay as you go' CarSharing service. You only pay for the hours you've reserved and the kilometres driven. Customers will save themselves thousands on an annual basis with GoCar by not having to own or lease their own vehicle with all the consequent costs such as road tax, fuel, insurance, servicing, cleaning etc.
A GoCar car will be on site after the talks for demonstration.
An explanation from Olivier Vander Elst, Greenaer of how electric vehicles answer Ireland's biggest challenge in terms of transport related CO2 emissions. An overview of the latest developments and projects in the field of electric transport and why this recession climate represents a great opportunity for their expansion.
A REVA electric car will be on site after the talks for demonstration.
Bernadette Moloney is the Environmental Awareness Officer working with
Kilkenny County Council. The Council supports the Green School Programme by offering support to Kilkenny schools while working towards Green Flag status and subsequent renewal flags.
Chiara Hanrahan is a newly appointed Travel Officer from An Taisce. Chiara will work and support schools taking on the new travel theme in 2008. Chiara's presentation will outline the pilot travel theme that was undertaken in Dublin over the past two years.
- Cllr Malcolm Noonan
An outline of the proposed plans to encourage cycling within the city.
Followed by a demonstration of the Reva electric car and the GoCar card system in Butler House car park.
