A Transition Town Event
Butler House, Patrick Street, 8pm Admission €5/€3 concession, all welcome Followed by tea, coffee and conversation.
The Transition Town movement has
caught the imagination of hundreds
of
towns and communities across
the globe. The process focuses on
how we can use the challenges of
peak oil and climate change to
strengthen local economies and
communities. This ‘Rethink’ will
explore Transition and feature a
recorded interview with the
movement’s founder, Rob Hopkins
Ours is a culture of growth and
we have come to believe that
industrial
expansion will continue
forever. Instinctively we know this
not to be true and that our current
way of living is unsustainable. In
tackling climate change, and
especially peak oil, we must begin
to localise; to produce closer to
home, to consume closer to home, to play closer to home. This
‘Rethink’ will re-examine our vision of the future.
Richard Heinberg is one of the world’s
foremost educators on peak oil and
author of the seminal work “The
Party’s Over”. Beginning with a recap
on peak oil this ‘Rethink’ will feature a
documentary interview with Heinberg
examining resource depletion and how
local responses can help ease the
transition to a post-fossil fuel world.
